Navigating My Learning Journey in the Oil & Gas Industry
Honestly, when I first started my internship, the oil and gas industry felt completely foreign to me. But over four months, I learned so much—from the blending process, product characteristics, to diesel storage at PT TEM. B2B Marketing was also a unique challenge since I was more familiar with B2C. But guess what? These challenges fueled my motivation to keep learning and growing.
Level Up: From Intern to Officer
Being an intern was a great learning experience, but becoming an officer? That’s a whole new level. Expectations are higher, KPIs must be met, and responsibilities increase. I had to be more disciplined with administrative tasks, join monthly meetings to report my progress, and understand business processes like PR and PO for daily operations.
But the biggest challenge? Handling mistakes. I know that making mistakes is part of the learning process, but since becoming an officer, I’ve realized that every decision I make has a broader impact—it can affect the team, efficiency, and operational costs. I’ve learned to be more strategic and to consider long-term consequences before making any decision.
Spirit of Work: Confidence!
One thing I’ve truly embraced throughout this journey is confidence. Without it, growth and overcoming challenges would be much harder. Here are a few key mindsets I’ve developed:
Professional – Working independently, being responsible, and always striving to achieve targets.
Assertive – Making decisions based on data rather than just intuition.
Speaking Up & Readiness – Building the courage to share ideas and actively participate, including in product knowledge sharing sessions.
